Good wishes for Dr. Mc

I love the clear, crisp weather in Houston today. We won't have many more of these days this winter, so I put on my favorite little corduroy jacket. Mr. B bought it for me several years ago in Santa Fe and it's just the right weight.
Throwback Thursday. I think this was my senior year
at Spring Woods High School. My natural color hair back then.

I saw lots of photos this morning on Facebook of small kids dressed in western wear. Is today Go-Texan Day? I remember it being on Friday when I was in school. And this year I have a new pair of red cowgirl boots to wear. I don't want to miss that opportunity!

Today I'm creating dinner. Mr. B had a business dinner last night so I didn't cook the soup I was talking about in my blog yesterday. Today is another day. Dr. Mc has an important appointment this afternoon and I'm sending her good wishes. Go get 'em!

A busy and cold morning

Another photo of the hotel grounds.
What a difference a day makes. Last night when we went to bed it was raining so we knew the cold front was on its way. Then this morning it was downright cold! I think the high today is supposed to be around 44 degrees. This is Houston, not Santa Fe. I think we are supposed to have more rain today with temperatures rising through the rest of the week. That's the end of my weather report.

Since the weather is cold I feel like making some soup to eat tonight. I always "pin" recipes that I like to Pinterest. Perhaps I should look there for something warm and delicious to make.

Today I'm creating an event invitation and proofing (for the final time, I hope) two brochures that are going to print. I think I'll also wash some clothes and do some deep cleaning in the room where we watch television.

Back at it

Mr. B and I had a long weekend in Huatulco, Mexico that was very fun. It would probably be more fun for people who like water sports, but we still managed to have a wonderful time enjoying some outdoor activities (drinking refreshing beverages under a tiki hut). I put my feet in the Pacific, but swimming was limited to the pool because the ocean tide was too much for me to handle. The water was beautiful, but the sand was hot and course.
On our way to Mexico, Mr. B took a moment to pose
in front of friend Dixie Friend Gay's mural in Terminal B.

Since I haven't blogged in about a week, here's an update on Roz. She seems to be feeling better since she started taking the steroids. She limped from the bathroom to the bed this morning, which is incredible considering that last week she couldn't stand without falling.

Today I'm creating … I haven't decided yet. There are days when I don't want to create anything, but that doesn't make me a bad person!

Not a darm thing

Roz before she lost two of her front teeth.
I was so lazy today. I basically sat on the bed most of the day and watched Roz. She isn't eating or drinking or relieving herself in any manner like we are used to her doing. The vet's office was open today, but they were booked up so I'll take her in at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow.

The good thing is that she doesn't seem to be in any pain. It doesn't seem to hurt her when we pick her up or set her down. I don't think she can stand up on her own. When we set her down on the floor she will bobble some. She has been able to stand up for a few minutes, but she doesn't walk. Instead her legs give out and she falls over.

Today I'm creating nothing. I did clean up a mess beside the bed. I have a bad habit of reading magazines and then setting them on the floor beside the bed. The stack gets really tall before I make a final pass through the articles and photos to see if there is anything I want to save.

Worries about Roz

Roz in Santa Fe a couple of years ago.
Mr. B and I are worried about little Roz. Months ago we were told she had arthritis in her right front leg. Since then we pick her up and take her outside so she can use the bathroom. We pick her up and put her down in front of the water and food bowls. She would sometimes limp for 10-25 feet, but now she has stopped walking at all and sometimes she can't even stand. When we put her down her legs are so weak that she falls over. (Fortunately her belly is only about six inches above the ground.) I hope Dr. Duncan's office is open tomorrow (President's Day) so I can take her to get checked out.

When we rescued Roz we were told she was three years old, which would make her about eight now. Lately we have notice how much gray hair she has gotten and she has lost two teeth. This, plus the fact that she sleeps probably 23 hours a day, makes us think she was older than three when we got her.

Today I'm creating time to read about curling. I watched some of the Olympic curling last night and never figured out the scoring. It's a project.

A quiet Saturday

Mr. B and I had a terrific dinner last night at La Griglia. Apparently he goes there regularly (without me) and was bragging to me about their beef short ribs with mushroom risotto.

We started with a bottle of Prosecco and then shared a shrimp and crab cheesecake appetizer. He had the beef short ribs while I had an autumn salad with chicken. At this point it became apparent to me that I'm the only one concerned about fitting into my summer dresses while we are in Mexico next week. It's not fair. It's just not fair.

Today I'm creating a packing list. While we were sitting down to dinner last night, friend Rhonda came over to say hello. Photo op!

I have Valentine's Day treats for the lovely McCarley sisters.

Beautiful white roses from Mr. B!
I made a trip to Nordstrom in the Galleria today to continue my search for a cocktail dress to wear to the wedding in Mexico next weekend. Finally, success. The dress is actually long so I'm going to take it to be shortened tomorrow. Shopping in the Galleria on a Thursday afternoon wasn't bad at all.

What I really hate about shopping is getting undressed and trying on cloths, but I put on my big girl panties (a.k.a. spanx) and went for it.

Today I'm creating final revisions to an ad and continuing to call people/businesses to request donations to the auction I'm chairing.

Another productive day

My little Valentine's scene with miniature trees. The
ceramic house in the middle is about two inches tall.
Someday I'll get my sleeping habits back to normal. There was a time when I was at work by 7:30-8 a.m. every day. Now at those times I'm wishing Mr. B would finish dressing and turn off the lights. Maybe I sleep late because I stay up late? It sounds reasonable to me.

I'm getting closer to redoing our living and dining rooms. They have been the same for close to 15 years. I can't believe it! At one time, when we were thinking about selling the house and moving into a "lock-and-leave" townhouse or patio home, we did put about half the artwork in storage. But then we decided that it would be a miracle if we ever found another place that we could afford in the area we wanted, so we brought everything the artwork back into the house. Since de-cluttering is on both Mr. B's and my mind, we may donate some of the artwork to the auction I'm working on. Plus, we have a house full of artwork in Santa Fe. I'm thinking about taking some of the artwork out of the casita and giving it to Dr. Mc and #1-son-in-law Nick so they'll
give me back my signed Matisse that's in their living room.

Today I'm creating text for new ads and a delicious dinner for Mr. B. I sautéed vegetables to put on top of Tilapia I cooked. There are enough vegetables left that I can put them on top of pasta tomorrow for lunch.

It's another cold Tuesday in H-town

The furry Pettit girls curled up together on a cold day.
Certain things puzzle me. For example, who was the first person to eat a Brussels sprout and think it was tasty? Anchovies? Calves liver? Or okra? All of these make me cringe.

I feel the same way about the luge? I can't imagine laying down and going feet first over an rock-hard ice track. I don't know if this is really an Olympic sport. Mr. B says the same things about ice dancing.

Today I'm creating a calendar of events and a bunch of other stuff. It has been a productive day.

Koo Koo Kachoo!
Tonight's 50th anniversary tribute to the Beatles has been incredible. So wonderful to sing along with the songs from my childhood and teen years. I would love to see George Harrison's and John Lennon's sons perform with Paul and Ringo. I can't be the only one who would like to see that happen.

I told Mr. B how exciting and terrifying it must be for a performer to sing a Beatle's song with Paul and Ringo sitting in front, looking back at you. Maybe that's want happened to Katy Perry tonight. I didn't care for her performance … and what was that she was wearing?

Today I'm creating posters for a committee meeting tomorrow night. I made two for Sandy and will make mine tomorrow. In the meantime, Let It Be!

A Lesson

This time last week I was feeling totally different than I do now. Because of all the nasty comments and names hurled at me, I was beaten down last weekend. What a difference a little time makes. I'm not only feeling better about myself, I'm also less likely to judge or criticize someone else.

For example, this week homeowners were interviewed about a developer who tore down a fence that was encroaching (by several feet) on his property. Then the true story came out. The developer had torn down the fence, before it fell down, but also offered to build the homeowners a new home that was within their property lines. The media downplayed that and instead focused on how a mean old builder (Goliath) was hurting the homeowner (David). I plan to do less criticizing, except when it comes to the vultures in the media.

Today I'm creating time to watch oscar-winning movies. Think I'll also do some house cleaning, but I'm not in any hurry to do it.

Posters and fliers

It has been one week since I wrote my blog. I was tempted to not write another one, but I'm getting close to posting 1,000 blogs. I want to get there.
Two weeks from today Mr. B and I will be spending our first full day in Huatulco, Mexico. We're going there for a wedding and I'm desperately looking for a cocktail dress to wear. I'm part of the old school that says you don't wear black to a wedding, and my cocktail attire is filled with LBDs. (Remember that we'll be in Mexico where the temp at this time of the year is 82 degrees.) My list of what I will and won't wear is getting longer and inhibiting my choices. No strapless or spaghetti straps. No one shoulder or halters. I prefer sleeves. I want to cover my knees and the "girls." Nothing too tight, but nothing too full across the hips. Oh, I could go on and on about my desired fabrics, but I won't bore you!

Today I'm creating a program for an upcoming event and two fliers. I've gone about as far on them as I can for today. The furry Pettit girls are getting coiffed today so it's very quiet in the house.
